Book of Dead has an RTP of 96.21%
Book of Dead by Play’n GO was released in 2015 and has gone on to become something of a ‘cult’ slot with fans from all over the world.
The slightly outdated graphics don’t seem to deter fans, neither does its somewhat limited bonus offer. Instead, this is a Play’n GO classic that has proven to be a money-spinner for the developer over the years, leading to a whole series of games featuring the star of the show, Rick Wilde.
The Book of Dead soundtrack has the kind of ancient Egyptian rhythm to it which you know you’ve heard before but can’t quite put your finger on where. It does suit the game perfectly though and like the soundtracks for most slots, the way in which it speeds up when you have a chance of landing the bonus certainly adds to the excitement.
As already mentioned, the symbols have a classic feel to them, and have been repeated across the years in a variety of slots, but this takes nothing away from the game. Instead, it adds to the charm and makes playing Book of Dead feel like a comforting experience. The Book of Dead symbols consist of the playing cards, Ten, Jack, Queen, King and Ace, along with the following special symbols: Horus, Anubis, Osiris, the Book and the man himself, Rich Wilde.
Before you start to play Book of Dead you will need to set the level of your stake and decide if you want to use the ‘autoplay’ feature of the game. The settings can all be accessed by clicking on the black circle with three white horizontal lines in the bottom right-hand corner of the game, next to the reels. This will take you to an area where you can adjust the number of lines, the coin value, and the number of coins used for each spin.
The number of coins range from one to five, the coin value from 0.01 to 1.00, and the number of lines from one to ten. These values can be adjusted by the sliding button, which is very easy to use.
The auto-play feature can be set between 10 and 100 spins. There is an option to automatically stop the auto-play spins when a single win exceeds a set figure, when the playing balance increases or decreases by a certain amount, or when the bonus round is triggered.
As you will see from this Book of Dead review, there isn’t a complex bonus offering with this slot, but this is one of the rare occasions that it doesn’t seem to impact the game negatively in any way. The bonus is triggered when three or more Book symbols appear anywhere across the active pay-lines. When this happens you will be rewarded with 10 free spins.
It should be mentioned at this point that when these symbols appear, a pay-out is awarded of 2x, 20x or 200x your total stake, depending on the number of Book symbols that appear.
The free spins take place within the sacred chamber. If the three Books appear again during the bonus round, the bonus will be retriggered with an additional 10 free spins being awarded.
Before the free spins begin, a symbol is automatically chosen for you which acts as an expanding wild. If you have played slots before with this feature, you will be aware of the winning possibilities which this feature can produce.
The Book of Dead has a return to player (RTP) figure of 96.2% and quite a high volatility. In layman’s terms, this basically means that you can encounter longer periods of gameplay without experiencing any winning lines. There is nothing wrong with this, it’s just the nature of the game, but there are a few Book of Dead tips that will help to balance out your play and perhaps increase the length of time that a playing session might last for.
We have already spoken about how the settings for the game can be adjusted in terms of wager size and the number of lines which you play for each spin. One simple Book of Dead tip is to always play with the maximum number of lines, even if this means using a smaller wager. Maximum lines give you more chances of winning on each spin. Although it sounds obvious, there are a surprising number of players that don’t realize the difference that this can make.
One of the other Book of Dead tips would be to set yourself a limit regarding the amount of money you are willing to spend playing this slot. If you drop to that limit, stop playing. This will allow you to limit the amount of money you can lose, and as the Book of Dead slot has stood the test of time for this long, it’s reasonable to assume that it will be there when you decide to try again.
As with all Play’n GO games, Book of Dead can be played on any mobile device without losing any of the features you get when playing the game on a PC.
Play’n GO utilizes HTML5 technology for all of its productions, so the game is still of a very high quality, no matter what device it is played on.
The popularity of the Book of Dead slot, as well as the other slots in the series, shows that Play’n GO has come up with a game that ticks all the right boxes in terms of quality and entertainment.
The fact that the graphics are starting to look slightly dated is not a problem. Even though the bonus round is rather basic, there is still enjoyment to be had with the free spins that can be retriggered.
As previously mentioned in this Book of Dead review, this is a volatile slot, but if you always remember to play with maximum lines and minimum stakes, the chances are good that you will enjoy your Book of Dead experience.
